This is a print from one of Daniel's oil pastel drawings.
A bear sits in a forest contentedly listening to a story. A woman in a green dress sits on a log next to the big brown animal with an open book in her hands. She has long, dark hair and an intent expression, focusing on the bear beside her. Perhaps it’s about time for the bear to hibernate and he’s hearing a few of his favorite bedtime tales.
From the artist: I was in the mood to create a whimsical scene for this one. I got the idea for this while listening to Scheherazade by Rimsky Korsakov about the character from 1001 Arabian Nights who must tell a story every night to placate and angry Sultan. I decided though that I wanted the storyteller to be calming a bear rather than a man.
The original was made using Sennelier Oil Pastels on a 20”x16” piece of archival quality sanded paper. Some of the finer details were done using Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils. It has been finished with four coats of Sennelier's fixative for oil pastels, then two coats of Liquitex acrylic varnish.
Thanks for looking,
Daniel Eskridge
