This is a print from one of my oil pastel works.
The fennec fox is a small desert-dwelling fox native to North Africa, best known for its unusually large ears, which help dissipate heat and enhance hearing. It has a sandy-colored coat that reflects sunlight and provides camouflage in its arid environment. As the smallest species of fox, the fennec typically weighs only 2 to 3.5 pounds and has adaptations that allow it to survive the harsh conditions of the Sahara, including thick fur-covered feet to protect against hot sand. Nocturnal by nature, it hunts insects, small mammals, and plants during the cooler night hours. The fennec fox is also known for its social behavior and playful, curious personality, making it a popular animal in zoos and, controversially, the exotic pet trade.
For her birthday, my daughter got to pet a fennec fox at the zoo. She had so much fun that she asked that I draw paint one for her. I went up to the Chattanooga zoo to take a few photos of theirs for research. They ARE fun to watch, very timid, though. It was tricky to get photos of them.
