This is a print from one of my oil pastel drawings.
Two turtles climb across a moss-covered fallen tree above a quiet woodland stream, their patterned shells glowing against the soft tones of autumn forest light. The textured strokes of oil pastel bring depth and movement to the bark, water, and surrounding foliage, emphasizing both the weight and personality of the animals.
From the artist: For a time, my wife's family lived on a small lake. Various fallen trees would stick out of the shallow water, and, every morning, there would be turtles hanging out on those logs. They were fun to watch as they would fall into the water after the sun warmed them up too much in the southern heat. Anyway, I had a request from my wife to make a scene that feature turtles.
The original for this work is a 14"x11" work on Ampersand pastelbord. It was made using Sennelier oil pastels.
