Similarly, in the epic poem "Beowulf," the titular hero faces a dragon in his final battle, showcasing the creature as a formidable and honorable opponent that brings closure to a hero's journey.

Despite their often malevolent depictions, dragons also held positive connotations in certain contexts. In heraldry, dragons symbolized strength, power, and protection. They were commonly used in coats of arms and emblems of nobility and royalty, signifying courage and vigilance. Additionally, in some folklore traditions, dragons were seen as wise and ancient beings, holding secret knowledge and ancient wisdom. This duality in the portrayal of dragons highlights their complex role in European cultural and mythological history, serving as both harbingers of destruction and symbols of immense power and mystery.
