Stormy Day Pinto

This is a print from one of my oil pastels.

"Stormy Day Pinto"

A wild horse rears up beneath a moody sky somewhere in the wilderness of the American West. This mustang has a black and white pinto coat with a white mane and tail. It stands in long grass on a hill behind which, in th edistance rise dark evergreen trees. Somewhere to the right of the scene, the sun peaks through the clouds to illuminate the horse and just touch the tips of the grass on the hill.

One of the routes I can take on my way to the grocery store takes me past some of the last few horse farms in my area. One day while taking this route I stopped at a railroad crossing for a train and got a moment to look at one of these farms. They had a black and white pinto out in one of their fields and it looked a bit agitated by the train...it gave me the idea to create this work featuring a horse not quite rearing up all the way but still in motion.
